This song is amazing and a must listen among all brazillian songs, the rhythim is amazing, the vocals are quite fitting with the theme of the song and the lyrics are perfect. In a world full of war, conflicts and extreme ideas, I think that everybody needs this message, so I'm translating this masterpiece to english.
A little bit about Lenine, he's from the state of Pernambuco, Brazil (Same as me), has this name because his father really liked a crazy soviet leader called "Lenin", anyway. He did chemical engineering, yeah, I know, nothing to do with music, right? But engineers are a breed that can do pretty much anything, as a student of electric engineering, I can tell you that, yeah, we're all versatile. Lenine won 7 Latin Grammy Awards from 2002 to 2018, for 4 albuns and 3 songs (None of which is this one, which is kinda unfair, this song is underrated. To be fair, 2 of the albuns that won had this song on them, so...). This is one of the best composers still playing from Brazil, I swear.
The song has a strong social criticism and everytime I listen to it, I stay silent, just letting the message enter my brain, as they say here: "While you're talking, you can't hear". Time won't stop, but you can enjoy every second while it lasts. There's a wake up call to the world to be more patient, as the song name suggests (Patience). This song is an anthem to life. I'm taking the lyrics from the MTV acoustic version, since the "Lenine in cité" is shorter, yet, almost the same in content.
With no further ado, to the translation:
Literal translation:
Even when everything asks you to be calmer
Even when the body asks for a little bit more of soul
Life doesn't stop
Whilst time speeds up and asks to hurry up
I refuse it, postpone it, go to a waltz
Life is so rare
Whilst everyone awaits for the cure of evil
And madness pretends that everything is going normally
I pretend to have patience
The world spins faster the more time passes
We expect from the world and the world expects from us
A little bit more of patience
Is it time that you lack to realize that?
Do we even have this time to waste?
And who wants to know?
Life is so rare
So rare
Even when everything asks you to be calmer
Even when the body asks for a little bit more of soul
I know, life doesn't stop
It doesn't stop at all
Is it time that you need to notice that?
Do we even have this time to waste?
And who wants to know?
Life is so rare
So rare
Even when everything asks you to be calmer
Even when the body asks for a little bit more of soul
I know, life is so rare
It doesn't stop at all
Life is so rare
Life is so rare
Translation to sing:
Even when everything demands for more calm
Even when the body demands for more soul
Life doesn't stop
While time accelerates and asks for haste
I refuse it, take my time, go to a waltz
Life is so rare
While everybody awaits for the cure of evil
And madness pretends that this is all normal
I pretend to have patience
The world keeps spinning faster and faster
We expect from the world and the world expects from us
A little bit more of patience
Is it time that you lack to notice?
Do we have this time to waste?
And who wants to know?
Life is so rare
So rare
Even when everything demands for more calm
Even when the body demands for more soul
I know, life doesn't stop
It doesn't stop at all
Is it time that you lack to notice?
Do we have this time to waste?
And who wants to know?
Life is so rare
So rare
Even when everything demands for more calm
Even when the body demands for more soul
I know, life is so rare
It doesn't stop at all
Life is so rare
Life is so rare
